Wayfinding

University of Michigan Natural History Museum

Designing a system and solution to better serve the visitors of the University of Michigan’s Natural History Museum

Dinosaur Footprints

The University of Michigan Natural History Museum is tucked into surrounding buildings of study. This I found to be very difficult to find. Many of the visitors observed at the museum were families, elderly, and single moms with children. The new system I introduced is adding dinosaur footprints from the parking garage to the door of the museum. These small footprints can help lead visitors easily from point A to B without needing a map or an array of different signage. The footprints also serve as a fun activity for children to play along with before they even step foot in the museum. It gives the visitor an idea of what is inside on display.
